All that you need to know for the Yorkshire Grand Départ

Starting on Saturday 5th July 2014, The Tour de France comes to England in a 3 stage nationwide event. North Yorkshire plays host to stage 1 of the tour; “Yorkshire Grand Départ” or more commonly referred to as “The Tour de Yorkshire”. Starting in Leeds, stage 1 covers 190km of Dales countryside passing through the towns of Reeth and Leyburn before finishing in the spa town of Harrogate. 2CS Richmond offers an ideal base to enjoy this inaugural event with Reeth and Leyburn only 20-25 minutes away.
The day promises to be action packed with a full timetable of events and activities planned. Preceding the race will be the tour´s “Caravane Publicitare”; a 180 vehicle convoy that offers music, freebies and entertainment before the race arrives approximately 2 hours later. So with our holiday cottage so close to the towns of Leyburn and Reeth, what is the must know information?
Reeth
Time of arrival:
Caravane Publicitare: 13:07 approx
Race: 14:50 – 15:07 approx
Located between 2 of the Yorkshire Dales, Swaledale and Akengarthdale, Reeth offers fantastic views of the beautiful countryside and provides easy access to a number of walking and cycle routes through the Yorkshire Dales National Park (see www.yorkshiredales.org.uk for more information). Reeth have not yet confirmed its plans for the race but needless to say there will be a number of activities and plenty of welcoming tea rooms, pubs and restaurants for you to soak up the atmosphere!

Leyburn
Time of arrival:
Caravane Publicitare: 13.26 approx
Race: 15.07 – 15.26 approx
Leyburn has been heavily featured on ITV 1´s The Dales and is located in the heart of Wensleydale. It is many ways similar to Richmond with its Market Square, picturesque views and many opportunities for walks. Other major tourist attractions include the Wensleydale Railway, a heritage railway line serving the Yorkshire Dales. The line will be operating a special timetable for the Grand Départ (see http://www.wensleydalerail.com/train-timetable/grand-depart-2014-timetable ) and so is well worth incorporating this into your visit.
